Why we exist

Foundry Housing provides supported accommodation and social housing. We believe a good home is the foundation for everything else, and that people thrive when they feel safe, respected and connected.

As a women-led organisation, we’re hands-on and accountable. Alongside homes, we run courses and events so people build skills, friendships and confidence.

Hannah is usually the first person you’ll speak to when you message or email Foundry. She makes sure every enquiry, referral and viewing is handled quickly and kindly, and works closely with local authorities and care providers so each placement is well matched and well managed.

Is a Foundry room right for me?

Our rooms suit adults who want a safe, settled place of their own with support nearby, and who are ready to take a next step: building routines, managing a tenancy and moving toward independence.

You don’t need to be perfect. You do need to be willing to work with the support on offer. If you’re unsure, talk to us: we’ll explain what’s available and whether it’s a good fit. Read the eligibility criteria.

Questions about our rooms

How quickly can I move in?

Once your referral, ID and benefit details are in order, we can usually arrange a viewing quickly and agree a move-in date.

How much is the rent?

Rent is paid through Housing Benefit for most tenants, so you shouldn’t need to find it from your own income. We’ll confirm the rent and any charges before you sign.

Do I need to be on benefits?

Most of our tenants claim Housing Benefit, and many also claim Universal Credit. See our benefits guide, or ask us and we’ll talk you through it.

Can I view before I decide?

Yes. Book a viewing and we’ll share the exact address, then show you the room and the shared spaces.

I’m a professional with someone to refer. What do I do?

Use the referral form or contact our team with the person’s details, support needs and funding. We’ll reply with next steps. How referrals work.

We house adults aged 18 and over who receive a qualifying benefit and would benefit from a safe, supported home. Our homes are in Rotherham and Birmingham. What pays for what

Your rent: Housing Benefit

In supported exempt accommodation, rent and eligible service charges are normally paid through Housing Benefit, claimed from your local council, rather than through Universal Credit. We’ll help you claim.

Living costs: Universal Credit

If you’re eligible, Universal Credit helps with everyday costs like food and bills. You can claim it alongside Housing Benefit.

Disability or health: PIP

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) helps with the extra costs of a long-term health condition or disability. It’s a separate benefit and is paid to you. See the full list of qualifying benefits below.

Other support

Depending on your situation: ESA, State Pension or Pension Credit, and Council Tax Support.

Please note: rules for Housing Benefit in supported housing have started changing from October 2026, and PIP rules are under review. Your council or our team can tell you exactly what applies to you.

When a standard home isn’t enough

Some people need more than a room in a shared house. They may need step-free access, wider doorways, a wet room, space for equipment or support staff, or a calm, low-stimulus environment. Without those things, a home can be unsafe, or simply unliveable.

At Foundry we create and adapt homes for specific people, working with the tenant, their family, their care team and the commissioner from the start. Rogerio Wanderley, our Accessibility & Inclusion Adviser, advises on the design so that the home works for the person living in it.

The need

A tenant with specialist needs required a home where they could live safely and with as much independence as possible. A standard property couldn’t offer that.

What we did

We chose a bungalow in Stockton so the tenant could live on a single level, then adapted it around them, working with the tenant and their support team.

The result

The tenant moved into a home made for them, with their support in place.

There was a shortage of suitable, accessible supported homes in Hull.

What we did

We developed a block of 12 self-contained flats and adapted them for the people who would live there, so each tenant has their own front door, kitchen and bathroom with support nearby.

Twelve people now have a settled home of their own.

Our vision

We believe a good home is the foundation for everything else. We house and support people throughout their lives: from children’s homes and the early years, through young adulthood and independent living, to later-life care and hospice care.

We build each stage step by step with councils, care providers and the communities we serve.

1. Early years and children’s homes

Safe, homely settings for children who cannot live with their family, run with registered children’s care partners.

2. Young people and care leavers

A first home with the right support for the move into adulthood, and a clear route to independence.

3. Adults in supported living

Furnished rooms and flats with support, paid for through benefits, in Rotherham and Birmingham.

4. Specialist and adapted homes

Homes designed around one person’s needs, from adapted bungalows to purpose-developed blocks of flats.

How we’re set up

Foundry provides the housing and manages it. Care and support come from partners who are regulated to deliver it.

Housing and management

We provide and manage the homes: lettings, tenancies, rent, repairs and property safety.

Care and support

Support is delivered by partner providers who are registered and regulated for the care they provide. In some areas we employ staff directly to deliver low-level support.

For each home we agree in writing who is responsible for what, so tenants and councils always know who to contact.
